CNN —Three men were arrested in the 1989 killing of a woman in Missouri after someone came forward with a tip over three decades after her death, authorities said. Kelle Ann Workman was reported missing on June 30, 1989, in Douglas County, and her body was found eight days later in a national forest in neighboring Christian County, officials from Douglas County said in a news conference on Wednesday. The arrests came after a person “in the last couple of months” gave law enforcement information tying the suspects to Workman’s killing, Douglas County Prosecuting Attorney Matt Weatherman said. The three men had been on authorities’ radar in relation to the cold case for some time, Douglas County Sheriff Chris Degase said Wednesday. Authorities did not provide information on the tipster who came forward, or the information that was shared.

REYKJAVIK, Iceland (AP) — Iceland’s president said the country is battling “tremendous forces of nature,” after molten lava from a volcano in the island’s southwest consumed several houses in the evacuated town of Grindavik. Johannesson said in a televised address late Sunday that “a daunting period of upheaval has begun on the Reykjanes peninsula,” where a long-dormant volcanic system has awakened. A volcano on the peninsula erupted for the second time in less than a month on Sunday morning. Authorities had ordered residents to leave the fishing town of Grindavik hours earlier as a swarm of small earthquakes indicated an imminent eruption. NEW YORK (AP) — The head of Hachette Book Group, Michael Pietsch, is retiring as CEO and will be succeeded by Hachette UK CEO David Shelley. Pietsch, who has worked with authors ranging from Keith Richards to Donna Tartt, will serve as chairman of the U.S. publisher starting Jan. 1 of next year. “I’m proud of everything that all of us at Hachette Book Group have accomplished in the past decade, in close partnership with our authors — thriving, growing, and reinventing ourselves through complex and challenging times," Pietsch, 67, said in a statement Tuesday. New York CNN —Some of the nation’s most powerful law firms are warning America’s elite universities to crack down on antisemitism on campus – or the schools and their students will face real consequences. “Over the last several weeks, we have been alarmed at reports of anti-Semitic harassment, vandalism and assaults on college campuses, including rallies calling for the death of Jews and the elimination of the State of Israel,” more than two dozen law firms wrote in a letter obtained by CNN. Their latest Gen Z salary transparency report found that, after surveying 1,853 Gen Z jobseekers, women expect a $6,200 lower average salary compared to men. "I was surprised that women are still asking for less money and have lower salary expectations," Workman tells CNBC Make It. Though women have historically been paid less than men, the gap has narrowed significantly since 1960. What's more, for every dollar paid to white dads, Black, Native American, and Latina moms earn 52 cents, 49 cents, and 47 cents, respectively. Several states, cities, and counties across the country have already passed legislation making salary transparency a requirement, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Maryland, Nevada, Rhode Island, Washington and New York City.

Students from the class of 2023, having experienced the majority of their college years through Covid, are resilient and adaptable but also want some semblance of normalcy: 85% of Gen Z job seekers say they're prioritizing stability in their job search, according to a new report from Handshake, a career site for college students and recent grads. On average, Gen Z job seekers define a "high" starting salary as paying $82,000 per year. Despite headlines of corporate downsizing, most workers have plenty of leverage in the current job market, and college seniors are paying attention, Workman says. "They're meeting their goals and being successful, and some are choosing to leave before they get burned out," Workman adds.
